Danny Wesley Ray

Danny Wesley Ray has been a professional musician and teacher for more than four decades. As a youngster, he learned to play piano, accordion, organ, and all of the wind instruments. Danny sang with the Texas Boys Choir, became the drum major of his high school band, and attended Texas Christian University.
After college, he traveled with and arranged for both a show band and a southern gospel male quartet, and has performed in scores of recording sessions. Between 1976 and 1991, he served as Organist for Landmark Pizza and Pipes and Pipe Organ Pizza in Dallas, Pipe Organ Pizza in Houston, the Organ Grinder in Toronto, Organ Stop Pizza in Tucson and Phoenix, and Casa Mañana Theater in Fort Worth. He has performed solo concerts in Wilmington, Sacramento, Rochester, Phoenix, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas.
He joined the Turtle Creek Chorale as a singing member in January 1993, has arranged some of the music heard in most of the major concerts since then, and has served as Composer-in-Residence. He recently served as Musical Director for two productions of "Always...Patsy Cline" as well as the productions of “A Christmas Carol” in Dallas, McKinney, and Arlington His recent major compositions include “Reflections: Songs Without Words” (an hour of music for meditation and relaxation) which was recorded by the Turtle Creek Ch orale, “Hearing Voices” (commis sioned by the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus), and “Genderella: A Real Fairy Tale” (a musical, Book and Lyrics by Robert Emery).
His third musical, “The Three Sillies,” commissioned by the Dallas Children’s Theatre, toured the country for nine months in 2001. His latest musical, “Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates,” written with Linda Daugherty, has been produced twice in Dallas, and around the country. Danny serves as the Music Director/Accompanist for the Arts District Cabaret, a 28-member Dallas choral ensemble that takes its repertoire from the great American songbook. Since 1980, Danny has arranged and/or orches­trated hundreds of pieces, and he continues as a prolific composer. His compositions are published by Shawnee Press.
