Designed in 1934 by Reginald Dixon, this was the second instrument by Wurlitzer to be installed in the Tower Ballroom. It was designed to be played for dancing, and being heard amongst crowds of 4,500 + people who visited the ballroom day and night. It was installed over the winter of 1934/1935 and it's first broadcast went out across the British Empire, which was some 25% of the Worlds population at the time. The Wurlitzer has continued to play since then for dancing, concerts, broadcasts, recordings, television, shows, and as accompinament to bands and singers. It is certainly amongst, if not the, most heard, broadcast, recorded and played theatre organ in the World, and it still well known in British Culture, it can be heard twice weekly on the Organist Entertains, as well as regular appearances on Television and radio.
