Ron Carter
Ronald Carter, an ATOS member and on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Chapter, has presented numerous theatre organ concerts and silent film accompaniments throughout the southeast. He is a graduate of Georgia State University and recently retired as a Commander with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation with more than 38 years of public law enforcement experience.
At age 7 Carter began accordion lessons and soon became interested in the piano and organ. He studied under Glenn Moffet and with the Anderson School of Music in Atlanta. He has served four churches as organist/Music Director for the last 40 years and is the organist and Music Director for the Hiram First United Methodist Church. He installed and maintained a 16-rank 1927 Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ in his Marietta residence for 20 years, which was subsequently replaced with a four-manual state-of-the-art Allen digital theatre organ.
Carter is also secretary to the Friends of the Strand Board, a local group of community and business leaders who have successfully restored a beautiful neighborhood theatre in Marietta, Ga. Carter is the house organist for the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Decatur, Ga., where he is responsible for the 60-rank Aeolian residence organ. He is the theatre organ consultant for Allen Organ Studios of Atlanta and has been involved in several installations throughout Georgia. Carter has been married to Donna Sharon Carter for 41 years; they have son John, daughter-in-law Julie and two precious grandchildren Jake and Abby.
